Nirmal and Jas are a husband and wife-team. Nirmal has a PhD in Chemistry and Biochemistry and worked as a Scientist before retraining as a Chartered Accountant and worked for the Royal Brompton Hospital for 20 years. Jas studied law, qualifying as a Solicitor and has been running the legal departments for technology companies. After leaving their professional careers, they decided to fulfil their long-held wish to become involved in healthcare provision. They purchased their first care home – Highgrove House in 2017, Byway House in 2019 and The Beeches Nursing Home in 2023.

Nirmal is responsible for managing the financial affairs, and Jas provides oversight for the operations of their care homes, fully supported by the registered managers and their healthcare teams at each home.
Nirmal – “I am committed to maintaining the highest standards of care for all our residents at all times by our dedicated care team, who are devoted and passionate about care. I left Royal Brompton Hospital in 2019 as I was keen to focus my entire time operating our care homes and ensuring our care homes are progressive and at the forefront of any changes in the healthcare sector and also making sure I am available at all times for our residents’ families.”

Karen Lisher

Registered Manager

I am an experienced registered manager and with extensive experience of running large residential and nursing homes for over 10 years in the West Sussex area. I am qualified as a nurse and have RN Level 1 qualification. I joined Highgrove House in early 2019 and have been in charge of running the home since 2019.
I have developed a passion for caring for elderly people and supporting their families including those living with dementia. I am dedicated to delivering a high standard of care for all residents and relatives. I value all team members and empower them to develop, gain skills and knowledge to help them deliver a high standard of care within the regulatory and organisational standards. I enjoy coming up with innovative ideas for fundraising and the introduction of Annual social events within the homes for residents and staff.

I decided to join Highgrove House in 2015 and have been the Care Manager for the last 5 years, prior to this I was a Deputy Manager at another nursing home for 10 years. I have held senior positions at various residential and nursing homes and have been working in the health sector my entire career. I completed my RN Level 2 qualifications over 25 years ago and was practising nursing until recently. I am passionate about the exceptional level of care provided by my Care team to our residents at all times. It is so crucial that our residents feel happy, content, enjoy an enriching and rewarding life at Highgrove House everyday.

Susan Charles

Prior to Highgrove House, I worked in the retail sector as an assistant manager. I decided to change direction and pursue a career in the healthcare sector as I enjoy working with people and am passionate about caring for the elderly in the residential care home setting.

Jane Moody

Chef

I initially joined Highgrove House  in 2014 as a  kitchen assistant. I turned my hobby in cooking into a professional career and decided to become a chef. I enjoy interacting with residents and learning about their personal preferences and dietary requirements.

Paula Franklin –

Maintenance Engineer

I have been working with the Highgrove House team since 2017, initially as a decorator and subsequently taking over the responsibility for day-to-day maintenance. I am involved in almost everything from ensuring residents’ and staff’s health and safety to resident activities. I am thrilled to be a part of the Highgrove House team, we have amazing residents, staff and families, and everyone is so caring and supportive of each other.

I was so impressed with the quality of care provided by Highgrove House’s care staff that I chose the home for my own father when he needed to move into residential care. He has been a happy resident at Highgrove for over four years. I have been running my own maintenance business for over fifteen years.
